Purpose Built Communities
A comprehensive approach to neighborhood revitalization
October 3, 2016
On Wednesday September 28th, a fantastic ULI event was held at the Brock Environmental Center in Virginia Beach. Speakers Thomas Quattlebaum, Sea Level Rise Fellow with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Dr. Brian Batten Senior Coastal Scientist with Dewberry discussed how climate change, sea level rise, extended storms and droughts, pose short and long term opportunities and risks for urban planning and development in Hampton Roads.
After the discussion, attendees were also given a tour of the Brock Center, one of the greenest buildings in the world – having achieved one of the toughest building standards in the world—Living Building Challenge certification.
