The main project is a 444,000-SF, ground level through rooftop heliport expansion including emergency and interventional departments. Once complete, the facility will have 84 beds with a future capacity of 180 when shell floor space is fitted out. The project also includes medical imaging including radiography, CT and ultrasound rooms. The interventional platform is comprised of operating rooms, interventional cardiology and interventional radiology. In addition, a helipad will be constructed on top of the tower. The project also includes 90,000-SF of multi-phased renovation work.

The tour will commence at the jobsite trailer with an introduction to the project and team followed by Stretch and Flex and a “Hard Hat” tour.  The onsite portion of the tour will start with a view of the project from the top of the Lee Street parking garage followed by a tour of the site.

PARKING on site is EXTREMELY limited and the gravel lot at the job site trailer is reserved for Skanska, Perkins+Will and UVA’s employees. It is therefore recommended that tour participants carpool or take public transportation. The Lee Street and 11th street parking garages are located across the street from the job site trailer.

The tour will divided into small groups for the on-site portion of the tour.

In order to participate in the tour, the following Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is required:

  • ANSI approved hard hat
  • Gloves – Cut level 3
  • Safety Toed Work boots that cover ankle at a minimum
  • ANSI approved Safety glasses (eyeglasses do not count)
  • ANSI high visibility clothing/vest
  • Long pants

The job site has extra hard hats, gloves, glasses, OSHA toes(slip-on safety toes) and vests on site to loan to participants who do not have their own. They typically have enough for 35-40 participants.
